# Creating a New Role

To create a new role, click the Edit Roles button, then click the Add Role button.

* On the **General** tab, you can give the role a name and description. Optionally, you can toggle on role based proposal permissions for token voting projects here. More details on the proposal permission toggle can be found in the following sections.
* On the **Member** tab, you can specify the address to associate the role with. Optionally, you can add a term limit to the role. More details on terms can be found in the following sections.
* On the **Payments** tab, you can add a payment stream to the role. More details on roles can be found in the following sections.

Once you’ve set up the role as desired, select Save, then when you are ready, select Create Proposal from the Roles page. You can batch multiple changes to roles together into a single proposal.
